The Regenerative Ecologies Design Lab is a research hub of postgraduate and intern work related to and supervised by Associate Professor Maibritt Pedersen Zari. In 2026, she is joined in leading the lab by Sibyl Bloomfield and Shereena Sumeran. REDLab brings together a diverse team of past and current people working with Pedersen Zari on transformative, regenerative architecture and urban design practice and research with interdependent social and ecological wellbeing and justice as its basis. REDLab focuses on four major areas of urban and architectural research:
Dr Pedersen Zari is an Professor at Huri Te Ao – The School of Future Environments, Auckland University of Technology, in Aotearoa New Zealand. Her research area of regenerative design redefines sustainable architecture and urban design through emulating ecosystems, working with ecologies and nature, and integrating complex social factors into architectural and urban design. Pedersen Zari is co-author / editor of Ecologies Design: Transforming Architecture, Landscape, and Urbanism (2020), author of Regenerative Urban Design and Ecosystem Biomimicry (2018), and co-author of Materials for a Healthy, Ecological and Sustainable Built Environment (2017).
